Kabbalah Group in SF

Reproduction from Z. ben-Shimon ha-Levi's The Way of the Kabblah.

Since April 1995, there has been a kabbalistic study group, meeting at Mira's house. The group consists of about a dozen partcipants, who have arrived at their interest in Kabbalah from various starting points: Judaism, magick, pagan worship... The people who have come most of the time (which I remember :) ) are myself, Josie, David, Robert, Leslie, Petra, Larisa, Anton, Chris, Becki, Harlan, Mira. I will give here a weekly brief synopsis of our discussions.

The format so far has been Mira talking about various aspects of Kabbalah, with some visiting lecturers, like Gabor G. from Budapest, Hungary in June, Christi from Cambridge, MA, in July, Ross C. from Madera CA, in August.

Some of the meetings are listed below:

  • May 11, 1995 .
  • May 18, 1995 .
  • May 25, 1995 .
  • June 1, 1995 .
  • June 8, 1995 .
  • July 13, 1995 .
  • July 20, 1995 .
  • August 3, 1995 .
  • August 10, 1995 .
  • August 24, 1995 .
  • September 7, 1995 .
  • September 21, 1995 .

  • Since then, the group has also explored some aspects of Jewish meditation. We first spent several weeks studying the work of R. Abraham Abulafia, from the work of R. Aryeh Kaplan, as discussed in his on meditation and Kabbalah, and also from M. Idel's books on Abulafia.

More recently, we have been studying the Zohar, using the recent translation editted by Daniel Matt and published by Stanford University Press.
